It’s well known that Japanese diaper brands are among the top-quality ones, but how are they better than other brands? We believe it is the courage to challenge common sense that can make life better, therefore here is our Babe Bubble Super Diaper Competition! We invited 2 experienced moms to participate The 4 brands selected are highly rated world-widely . Who could stand till the last in our comprehensive diaper review?

Moony has a nickname called “Diaper King” since it is the most respected brand by Japanese moms. It is absolutely environmentally-friendly, and its super humanized design has been favored by moms around the world for a long time. Moony’s diapers are very soft in general, and even the waist tape is made of “breathable” cottons that really comforts the baby.

GOO.N (DaWang) is another famous diaper brand using the world’s leading pulp technology. The diapers adopt polymer absorbent materials to improve the absorbency and breathability of diapers, and it is easy to carry since the diapers are made to be ultra-thin. An additional advantage of Goo.N diapers is that natural vitamin E is added in the cloth to prevent rash or redness.

Whito (Nipia) is the sub-brand of Oji Paper, and like all their facial tissues, the Nipia diapers are soft and thin! What’s worth mention is that they have 3-hour day diaper and 12-hour night diaper versions, which are convenient for new mothers to pick and use.

Merries has the patented embossed mesh surface technology and they have applied such high-tech thing into their diapers. When baby is siting with a Merries diaper, only 48% of the diaper will contact the skin, which gap promises the ventilation and a cozy experience.

Moony Smooth
The Smooth serial has an ultra-dimensional form that can fit perfectly to baby’s body, and with an added dry and breathable layer the diaper promises up to 12 hours of absorption.

Moony Royal Angel
Royal Angel serials is the ultra-soft version, with 20% improved surface softness the diaper is most suitable for newborns with sensitive skins.

Goo.N Angel
With quality natural cotton material and 3D embossing technology, the diapers can instantly absorb soft poops and prevent irritation and redness.

Goo.N Vitamin E
Cloud-like cloth surface with Vitamin E added, just right for your baby angel’s soft skins.

Goo.N Marshmallow
Goo.N is that bold to compare their diapers with marshmallow – Right, it is that soft and cozy.

Whito
Like mentioned above, Whito provides the 3-hour day type and 12-hour night type for diapers.

Canadians must be rather familiar with domestic diaper brands like Pampers and Huggies. However, it is common to see that diapers from these brands have different degrees of creping and cotton fiber breaks. The tactile feedback is overall disappointing; even for the costly Pampers Pure serials you can still see the dramatic difference in cloth softness when compared to diapers from Japanese brands.
All best-selling diaper brands in North America and Japan have included the urine– line design, which are super considerable for new parents. Normally the line will change color to signal the baby has peepeed or poo-pood and is in need of change. The appearance of the diapers is also attractive too; elements like white bears, rabbits or simple points can all fit well with characteristics newborn to toddlers. But if you look into details, Japanese will win again: Moony has specially designed protection for newborn’s belly button, Whito has significantly better performances in absorption, Merries got the 3D design to better fit baby’s body shape… Well, guess Japanese brand did earn their reputation with the better quality and design.

So today Babe Bubble had chosen four features that are most wildly concerned by moms to see which Japanese brand’s diaper could be most satisfying. The serials selected of each brands are the top-selling ones, including Moony Royal Angal, Goo.N Marshmallow, Whito 3-hour Day Diaper and Merries. The four features we looked into are elastic band’s flexibility, softness, absorbency and possibility of leakage.
1) Elastic band’s flexibility
We tried to stretch the elastic band on the waist and let it stand to see its three-dimensional shape. Normally when the diaper has a more solid shape, the diaper will fit better on baby and offer less strains to the legs. In regards of the standing alone shape, Moony is most likely to fit well with baby’s body shape, Merries is the second-best while Goo.N seems to be the one can easily loss shape. Moony also did well for the elastic band flexibility test as it had fairly impressive flexibility when we stretched it. It is also worth mentioning that the flexibility comes from material used in Moony’s diapers, while other diapers relied on sewed wrinkles to provide flexibility of the band, which can easily lead to redness on baby’s delicate skin.
3D Shape: Moony > Merries > Whito > Goo.N
Elastic Band Flexibility: Moony > Merries > Goo.N > Whito

2) Softness
Both moms rubbed the diaper to review the softness of the diaper and the results are surprisingly consistent. Goo.N felt super soft and smooth and Moony was almost the same but with slight feeling of uneven surface. Whito had apparent pits on the surface to improve absorbency.
Softness: Goo.N > Moony > Merries > Whito

3) Absorbency
It is amazing to see that all liquids were absorbed quickly. In terms of efficiency, Moony was the fastest. In the second test we tried to use injector to simulate baby peeing, and the larger area being colored means the diaper had higher absorbency efficacy. We also cut off every diaper to see it inside, and from the picture taken you can see all diapers have the “absorbency beads” that locked liquids firmly. However, Goo.N and Merries got broken after cutting, while Whito and Moony stayed still.
Absorbency Efficiency: Moony > Whito > Merries > Goo.N
Absorbency Efficacy: Merries > Whito > Moony > Goo.N
Absorbency Amount: Whito > Moony > Goo.N > Merries

4) Possibility of Leakage
To better review how baby will feel after peeing in the diaper, we use clean facial tissue to roughly press the “wet” diapers. The good news are that none of the diapers will wet the tissue, but from holding the diaper we felt that you can tell at the first minute when held Merries’s diaper, while with Whito you can hardly tell it needs to be changed or not.
Possibility of Leakage: Merries > Goo.N > Moony > Whito

From our Diapers Challenge, it is obvious that there is no “best” diaper brands but every brand has its own strengthens.
Moony and Merries did well in the 3D test, and both had fairly impressive flexibility shapes. The absorbency efficiency and efficacy are persuasive too, therefore we do recommend these two brands if you have an athletic baby.
Goo.N is extremely soft and provides cozy feelings inside when got wet. So if your baby have a sensitive skin type Goo.N can be your first choice.
Whito wins at its absorbency. It can absorb large amounts of liquids, thus is suggested for baby who pee a lot.
